STARS THAT REFLECT THE GLORY OF GODDownload this Sermon 2009
New Year Message preached by Ps Bios Solingkin at the SIB Metro Church on 4th
January 2009 (transcript by Ronny Cham)
Title: Be His STARS
When we
talk about ‘stars’, we can refer to the real stars in the sky or
metaphorically we can also refer to people such as film stars or movie
stars. God has impressed upon my
heart lately about stars in His Church.
In the
scripture, except the sun and the moon, stars in the sky demonstrate the
illustrious glory and majesty of the Creator Himself. In Psalms 8:3, we read, “When I consider Your
heavens, the work of Your fingers, the moon and the stars, which You have
ordained” (NKJV). And in
Psalms 19:1, the Psalmist said, “The
heavens declare the glory of God; And the firmament
shows His handiwork.” (NKJV)
The
Psalmist in Psalms 147:4-5 spoke of God’s knowledge of His created stars;
- “He counts the number of the
stars; He calls them all by name. Great is our Lord, and mighty in power; His
understanding is infinite.” (NKJV)
At the
same time, the scripture also used ‘stars’ as symbols of persons in
eminent stations or status. For
example in Number 24:17, the scripture says, "I see Him, but not now; I behold Him, but not near; A Star shall come
out of Jacob; A Scepter shall rise out of Israel, And batter the brow of Moab,
And destroy all the sons of tumult.” (NKJV)
Thus
"A Star shall come out of Jacob",
some referred to as the king David, the founder of the Hebrew dynasty,
according to others, it referred to ‘the Messiah’.
In
Genesis 37:9, the scripture says, “Then
he dreamed still another dream and told it to his brothers, and said,
"Look, I have dreamed another dream. And this time, the sun, the moon, and
the eleven stars bowed down to me." Here the eleven patriarchs are called
“stars”.
Indeed,
"stars" in the scripture also denote the princes, rulers, and nobles
of the earth, for example, in Daniel 8:10, the scripture says, “And it grew up to the host of heaven; and it
cast down some of the host and some of the stars to the ground, and trampled
them.” The
‘stars’ here refers to angelic beings. Likewise, in Revelations 6:13, scripture
says, “And the stars of heaven fell
to the earth, as a fig tree drops its late figs when it is shaken by a mighty
wind.”
In
Revelations 8:10-11, the Bible says, “Then
the third angel sounded: And a great star fell from heaven, burning like a
torch, and it fell on a third of the rivers and on the springs of water. The
name of the star is Wormwood. A third of the waters became wormwood,
and many men died from the water, because it was made bitter.” And in
Revelations 9:1, the scripture says, “Then
the fifth angel sounded: And I saw a star fallen from heaven to the earth. To
him was given the key to the bottomless pit.”
In Revelations
12:4, we read, “His tail drew a
third of the stars of heaven and threw them to the earth. And the dragon stood
before the woman who was ready to give birth, to devour her Child as soon as it
was born.”
These
scriptures referred ‘stars’ as princes, rulers and nobles of the
earth and of the spiritual satanic principalities. Of course that is not
exclusive. In Revelations 22:16, it
is declared, "I, Jesus, have sent My angel to testify to you these things in the churches. I
am the Root and the Offspring of David, the Bright and Morning Star." (NKJV)
In the
midst of many stars, Christ is the "Morning Star". Through Him comes the dawning of the light
of the Gospel day. He is the fountain of all light, the bright and the morning
star. He has given to his Church
this morning light of prophecy, to assure them of the light of that perfect day
which is approaching.
Knowledge
and wisdom are the attributes of the Morning-star. Christ is the morning-star.
He brings day with him into our soul, the light of His Grace and of His
Glory. He gives to us, His people,
that perfection of light and wisdom.
As we
began 2009, let that Morning Star continues to enlighten our mind and
soul. Let the Holy Spirit shines
the light of the scripture into our mind and soul, with growing knowledge, never
think we know enough until we come to know Him fully. Focus our interest, and take
it as a duty to know and to do truth as we come to this light.
In 2
Peter 1:19-21, the Apostle Peter said, “19 And so we have the prophetic word confirmed, which you do
well to heed as a light that shines in a dark place, until the day dawns and
the morning star rises in your hearts; 20 knowing this first, that
no prophecy of Scripture is of any private interpretation, 21 for prophecy never
came by the will of man, but holy men of God spoke as they were moved by the
Holy Spirit. (NKJV)
I
really feel that God has prophetically spoken to my heart that in this new year
2009, our Lord Jesus, the Morning Star, will shine in our hour of darkness
until the day dawns and the morning star rises in our hearts, so that we who
has the morning star, will shine like His stars for His Glory, reflecting His
majesty and the riches of His Kingdom. Let us rise up as His stars, with the
light of His Word, to shine into the blind mind and dark understanding of the
lost souls through and by the Holy Spirit of God. Let us shine as His stars,
that light of perfect wisdom brings forth the dawn of the spiritual day
in others.
