MINSTRY GIFTS – PART I [THE SERVANT]

Scripture: Psalms 101:6

My eyes shall be on the faithful of the land, that they may dwell with me; He who walks in a perfect way, he shall serve me.” (NKJV)

God declares who shall qualify to serve Him, it is he:

1)   Who is a faithful person;

2)   Who dwells in the presence of the Lord;

3)   Who lives according to the perfect Word of the Lord.

The Characteristic of a servant of the Lord:

Scripture:  Romans Chapter 12

Rom 12:1

One who offer up his body as a living sacrifices to God. The physical body, since Adam, is filthy because of sin.  How and when this filthy, sinful physical body becomes “holy and acceptable to God”? When one believes and is baptized, i.e., died with Christ, buried with Christ and rose again with Christ through baptism to the newness of life, is one whose filthy and sinful body has now become “holy and acceptable to God”.  Thus, a servant of the Lord is one who has believed, is baptized and have received His Spirit and living anew, a born again believer.

Rom 12:3

There is no room for pride, neither allow the excuse of false humility.  Each one of the servant has been given grace by God and a servant is not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think, but to think soberly, as God has dealt to each one a measure of faith.

The Nature of service

Rom 12:4-7

1)   Members do not have the same function;

2)   Each member has a specific gift given by God according to His grace;

3)   Each member is to use the gift given by God;

4)   Each member is to use the gift in ministering to one another.

The Attitude of a Servant

Rom 12:9-21

9Let love be without hypocrisy. Abhor what is evil. Cling to what is good. 10 Be kindly affectionate to one another with brotherly love, in honor giving preference to one another; 11 not lagging in diligence, fervent in spirit, serving the Lord; 12 rejoicing in hope, patient in tribulation, continuing steadfastly in prayer; 13 distributing to the needs of the saints, given to hospitality.

14 Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse. 15 Rejoice with those who rejoice, and weep with those who weep. 16 Be of the same mind toward one another. Do not set your mind on high things, but associate with the humble. Do not be wise in your own opinion.

17 Repay no one evil for evil. Have regard for good things in the sight of all men. 18 If it is possible, as much as depends on you, live peaceably with all men.

19 Beloved, do not avenge yourselves, but rather give place to wrath; for it is written, "Vengeance is Mine, I will repay," says the Lord.

20 Therefore, "If your enemy is hungry, feed him; If he is thirsty, give him a drink; For in so doing you will heap coals of fire on his head."  21 Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.” (NKJV)
